Macky is a proven utility, insurance, and environmental regulator, a clean energy entrepreneur and a transformation and organization leader. Trained as an architect at Yale University and a consultant at McKinsey & Co., Macky brings creativity, vision, and attention to detail to bear for his clients in every engagement. 

Macky drives innovation for clients in the converging industry sectors of energy, finance, telecom, government, infrastructure and transportation. He has combined expertise in strategy, operations, branding, consumer and behavioural insights and business development. At the intersection of business and government, he has spent the past 15 years delivering high value projects for clients and citizens alike.

Macky serves as the leader of our Boston office and is responsible for the growth of our US operations. Prior to joining innogy Consulting, Macky was in charge of the Division of Public Utilities and Carriers for the state of Rhode Island, overseeing regulations on electricity, water, wireless and broadband, private transportation and sewer systems. He has also led regulatory agencies in the insurance, banking, gaming, and environment industries.  Macky has a strong background in consulting, having worked with McKinsey & Co. for five years in the areas of corporate and commercial strategy, environment and public policy. As a clean energy entrepreneur, he co-founded EmPower Solar, a rooftop solar provider.

Relevant Engagements

Power Sector Transformation:

Redesigned the electricity distribution system and markets using modern networking technology to provide the intelligence and flexibility for the grid to integrate high levels of renewable energy.

Low Income Ratemaking Strategy:

Developed new ratemaking strategy for low income homeowners to minimize costs on healthcare system and maximize the social benefit of rate subsidy.

Bandwidth Investment Plan:

Established bigger, better, faster, and more bandwidth leveraging RI existing investment in fiber to attract private capital to deploy 5G or equivalent tech state-wide in RI first.

Innovation Partnerships with Regulators:

Created a safe playing field for innovators and disruptive technologies to develop their products in partnership with regulators.

Waste System Transformation: 

Designed Connecticut’s waste disposal system of the future to bring recycling rates from 25% to 60% within a ten-year period and unlock the commodity value of disposed materials.

Remediation Site Modernization:

Modernized site remediation programs to unlock hundreds of millions of dollars of real estate value locked up in polluted parcels by simplifying regulations and developing risk based criteria.

Long Island Regional Planning Board Environmental Study:

Led a carbon neutral economic development strategy study for the to develop a long-term economic and environmental sustainability plan. Incorporated long term planning for growth of alternative energy assets as well as water conservation and sewage and refuse disposal.

Green Start-up Commercial Strategy:

Conducted critical industry and market research, developed and implemented a market engagement strategy, which leveraged existing social forces to build support and acceptance of “green” products.

Global Wireless Carrier Market Strategy:

Led the mobile search and advertising workstream during a strategy study, including market assessment, competitor analysis and potential acquisitions. Developed a 5-year plan with total opportunity of ~$5Bn.

Non-profit Business Plan:

Developed a business plan for a new public policy and education Boston area non-profit. Helped develop the organization, operating and partnership models and set fundraising and impact goals.
